“Everyone has the right to a nationality”

Hana van Ooijen

As a lawyer, Hana van Ooijen employs the law as a means to counter bureaucratic walls. Such walls can bar individuals from claiming their rights. For stateless persons specifically, current registration rules can preclude them from being acknowledged as stateless. Hana van Ooijen is litigating against such incorrect registration and endeavouring for special attention for statelessness issues, when coming across them in her migration practice. Before her admission to the bar, Hana van Ooijen worked at Utrecht University as a PhD researcher and a lecturer. In 2012, she obtained her PhD degree with a dissertation on religious symbols in public functions. Utrecht University was also her alma mater where her interest in human rights originated.
