Published: July 2020

This submission to the 37th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on the right to a nationality and human rights challenges related to statelessness in Austria was submitted by Asylkoordination Österreich, Diakonie Flüchtlingsdienst, the European Network on Statelessness (ENS) and the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (ISI). The submission partially draws on information and analysis from ENS’s Statelessness Index, which covers Austria. The submission focuses on children's right to a nationality, statelessness determination and status, facilitated naturalisation, economic and social rights of stateless persons, risks of arbitrary detention, and the impact of COVID-19 on stateless persons in Austria.
