Displaced Palestinians across Europe – including in the UK – continue to face systemic exclusion, discrimination, displacement, and denial of rights. We’ve listened to our members, partners, and affected communities who have all voiced urgent concerns about the protection gaps faced by Palestinians throughout Europe. In response, we’ve developed a new Legal briefing on the rights of stateless Palestinians in the UK.
Drawing on international law and jurisprudence, as well as case law from the UK and other European countries, the briefing comprehensively sets out the legal basis for recognising Palestinians as refugees and/or as stateless persons. It also provides an overview of the routes to protection and leave to remain for Palestinians who are in the UK.
This resource is designed to support legal practitioners, advocates, and community organisations. Whether you are representing clients, campaigning for policy reform, or sharing vital information, this tool aims to strengthen access to protection and uphold the rights of displaced Palestinians both in the UK and across Europe.
The briefing builds on our previous report Palestinians and the Search for Protection as Refugees and Stateless Persons (2022), and the research also draws heavily on our Statelessness Case Law Database, containing extensive jurisprudence on statelessness from across Europe.
We are particularly grateful to our Community Advisory Board, comprising displaced Palestinians from the UK and other European countries, and to others consulted during the drafting process, whose expert advice was invaluable in helping to inform the briefing.
