This report analyses legislation and practice concerning the acquisition of Italian nationality by children born in Italy who are at risk of statelessness. It shows that Italian legislation provides a number of routes to ensure the reduction and the prevention of statelessness for children born on Italian territory. Nevertheless, the report also points out some legislative gaps and the persistence of certain shortcomings concerning the interpretation of the norms by the authorities.
