We’re pleased to have contributed to the Identity Rights Working Group’s submission to the CRC Committee’s draft General Comment 27 on Access to Justice and Effective Remedies. The submission focuses on key identity rights issues affecting children and includes specific recommendations on addressing childhood statelessness as a barrier to justice.
The submission calls on the Committee to strengthen its recommendations on procedural safeguards to prevent childhood statelessness and ensure access to effective remedies, and to establish child-friendly statelessness determination procedures.
We strongly welcome the Committee’s clear recognition that no child should be denied access to justice due to their nationality status, statelessness, or lack of documentation.
