Intervention

As part of the process of drafting the general recommendations Nos. 38 and 39 (2024) of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the general comments Nos. 7 and 8 (2024) of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW) on comprehensive public policies for addressing and eradicating xenophobia and its impact on the rights of migrants, their families and other non-nationals (or perceived as such) affected by racial and all intersecting grounds of discrimination, ENS participated in the regional consultation held on 30-31 October 2024 and submitted an intervention to the CERD and CMW. A community representative from Refugees Union in Portugal - UREP, member of ENS, also attended the consultation.

ENS' intervention highlighted the need to mainstream statelessness across both general recommendations/comments and include the international definition of a stateless person, include a section on antigypsyism, and the need to better reflect international standards and good practice as it relates to statelessness in a migratory context.
