Joint Submission for the 72nd session of the Committee against Torture on the rights, liberty and security of stateless people, the prohibition of arbitrary deprivation of nationality, and human rights challenges in The Netherlands pertaining to statelessness. 

The Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion and the European Network on Statelessness made a joint submission to the Committee against Torture, on the rights, liberty and security of stateless people, the prohibition of arbitrary deprivation of nationality, and human rights challenges in The Netherlands pertaining to statelessness, including the prohibition of cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment. The submission focused on:

  • Deprivation of nationality on national security grounds and the prohibition against torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
  • Statelessness determination, the liberty and security of the person and arbitrary detention.

The submission calls on the Committee against Torture to raise these longstanding matters and address relevant recommendations to the Netherlands.
