Joint submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – Netherlands

ASKV Refugee Support (ASKV), the European Network on Statelessness (ENS) and the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (ISI) made a joint submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on the prohibition and elimination of discrimination in the enjoyment of the right to a nationality, including in relation to stateless children born in the Netherlands. The submission also focuses on the impact of the lack of a statelessness determination procedure, and the unlawful discrimination in the enjoyment of other rights against members of minority communities who are stateless, or indefinitely categorised as having ‘unknown nationality’ in the Netherlands.

The submission urges the Committee to make recommendations to the Netherlands to uphold the principle of non-discrimination, children’s right to a nationality and to introduce a statelessness determination procedure.
