ENS urges the UK Government to ensure that any proposed amendment to the statelessness provision in British Nationality law does not make it more difficult for children born stateless in the UK to acquire British citizenship.
We recommend that no amendment is made to the provision without further detailed, independent study and a comprehensive impact assessment of any potential amendment on children in the UK who are stateless or at risk of statelessness. Our submission sets out the current legal framework, key issues relating to childhood statelessness in the UK, and draws on information from our Statelessness Index and UK members to make recommendations to the UK Government.
