In conversation with experts working in different contexts across Europe, we held a webinar on statelessness identification and protection in Europe and what needs to happen next.
Moderated by Aleksandra Semeriak Gavrilenok, our Vice Chair, we first heard from Patricia Cabral, ENS's Legal Policy Coordinator, who shared the key takeaways from our updated briefing on statelessness determination and protection in Europe.
We then heard from our members in countries where there has been progress in the introduction of Statelessness Determination Procedures, with representatives from:
-
Portugal: Leonor Felix da Costa, JRS Portugal
-
Germany: Denis Neselovskyi, Statefree
-
Austria: Leonhard Call-Blassnig
Following this, Christine Goyer, UNHCR and Tamás Molnár, EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, shared their insights on opportunities to address statelessness at the pan-European level, and the risks of leaving people behind if no action is taken.
